We are delighted to announce the creation of the "Young SMR" network, designed for young researchers in the SMR department: PhD students, post-docs, newly recruited researchers, contract staff, and more.
This network aims to promote and highlight the research conducted by our young researchers, support them through training to assist in their career development, and provide a discussion space to encourage exchanges between laboratories.
Among the various initiatives, we plan to organize:
-
Roundtables on pursuing an academic career: qualifications for Maître de Conférences (MCF) positions, differences between Chargé de Recherche (CR) and MCF roles, relevant sections for each, expectations depending on the section, best strategies, and section-specific expectations.
-
Writing workshops to publish popular science articles in The Conversation and promote the science produced by young researchers.
-
Training sessions on scientific outreach, eloquence, responding to reviewers (for thesis defenses or scientific articles), selecting funding calls, and writing your first research proposal.
-
And, of course, sports and social events!
For young researchers: If you would like to propose initiatives or get involved in this network (even occasionally), please send me an email (vicky.ury-thiery@u-bordeaux.fr) with your name, first name, laboratory, supervisor(s), status (PhD student, post-doc, junior MCF, junior CR, engineer, other...), and the approximate end date of your contract (if applicable).
Thank you all, and I hope to see you soon!
Vicky Ury-Thiery (Postdoctoral researcher at LOMA), on behalf of the Young SMR network.
& SMR Department directors (Jérôme Cayssol, Véronique Jubéra)

Webinar - Writing for The Conversation : June 9th 2026 - 13:00 to 14:00
